What makes a good photo?
Sometimes a good photo is just about the people in it. If they’re people you love, then you’ll probably love the image not matter what. A lot of Photo Booth Owners out there are banking on that! Did you know most Photo Booth Owners and Operators don’t actually know much about photography? What F Stop should you use for the best depth of field? What is depth of field?? How do you set your camera’s ISO and what does that even mean? What is white balance?? Tungsten lighting?? Why does this photo look blue and how do you color correct it? Does knowing any of that actually make a photo better? You bet it does! These are all details that go into making a quality photograph that not only has people you love in it, but also has everyone looking great.
If you don’t know what any of that means, don’t worry, that’s not your job, it’s ours! Let’s take a look at a few examples so you know what you’re looking for when shopping around and comparing the quality between different Photo Booth Vendors. The first thing you always want to do is make sure the images you’re looking at are actually images from the Vendor’s events, so you can get an accurate idea of what your photos will look like. Often times Photo Booth businesses will use stock photography and video purchased from marketing services for their website and social media, which gives the impression of high quality output and final product when the reality is their actual images are not at the same level. Let’s have a look at the kind of images you can often end up with if you’re not careful when shopping for your Photo Booth.
Below on the left we have the problem photos. Here are some of the issues we’re seeing; The subjects are very small in the composition, it’s framed poorly leaving way too much space overhead and on the sides, color balance is off in some making the image more blue than what is natural and some are too dark or out of focus. These mistakes are very common when you have a Photo Booth Operator who doesn’t know enough about the technical aspects of taking photos to fix the mistakes they’re seeing… sometimes they are not even aware they are seeing these mistakes! You will also encounter these issues when renting drop off booths that don’t come with the assistance of an onsite attendant. You as the client will need to learn the software and set-up for the rental and troubleshoot on your own. User error tends to be high in these type of situations. Drop-off iPad booths are certainly less expensive, but you do get what you pay for.
Now lets have a look at these mistakes corrected, on the right and see if you can feel the difference. Wow! I can certainly feel the difference! We’ve just gone from lackluster and rather disappointing to a photo that’s a memory worth holding onto. It’s up to you as a smart shopper to do your research when planning your event and shopping for the Photo Booth that will help you make the perfect memories from your day.
Red Fox Photo Booth always sends a trained photographer as an onsite attendant to your events so you never have to worry about the quality of your images or dealing with any of the technical hassles that go along with renting a drop off booth.
